DPF Engages I&M Bank Uganda Management and Staff on Deposit Insurance in Uganda and the Mandate of the Deposit Protection Fund – July 7, 2026
The Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda had an interactive engagement on July 7, 2026, with the top executive and staff of I&M Bank Uganda. Leading the bank team in attendance was Mr. Robin Bairstow, the Chief Executive Officer, alongside other members of the bank’s top management team. The engagement, a commendable behest of the bank, was attended by an impressive 145 staff drawn from across the bank’s staff fraternity.
The virtual session, part of DPF’s ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration with Contributory Institutions, brought together participants from I&M Bank Uganda, the Fund’s Communications and Operations teams to discuss key aspects of deposit protection, with particular emphasis on the Single Customer View (SCV). Discussions centered on the alternative modes of payment available to depositors in the event of a bank failure, and the critical role that accurate unique identifiers, captured at the point of account opening, play in ensuring depositors can be promptly and correctly identified and compensated in the event of closure of a regulated financial institution by Bank of Uganda.
DPF Director Communications, Mr. Patrick Ezaga highlighted to participants how the identifiers feed into the Single Customer View, a consolidated record that enables DPF to aggregate a depositor’s holdings across all accounts held with a member institution, ensuring accurate and timely payouts if the need arises.
In his remarks, Mr. Robin Bairstow appreciated the DPF team for sharing important insights about the deposit protection system in Uganda and further highlighted the importance of keeping accurate customer records. He noted that customer confidence stood at the core of the banking sector business and as such, deposit insurance was one of the pillars in promoting confidence.
DPF extends its appreciation to the management and staff of I&M Bank Uganda for taking the initiative to invite the DPF and for their robust participation during the engagement. The exceptional time management exhibited by the I&M Bank team was indeed commendable. With this and other similar efforts, we shall collectively continue in the journey to enhance public awareness to promote confidence in the financial sector.
