DPF CEO, Dr. Julia Clare Olima Oyet (Mrs.) re-appointed Chairperson of the Africa Regional Committee of the International Association of Deposit Insurers
The Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda is pleased to announce that Dr. Julia Clare Olima Oyet (Mrs.), the Chief Executive Officer has been re-elected, unopposed, to serve as Chairperson of the Africa Regional Committee (ARC) of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI). This was ratified during the IADI Executive Committee meeting held on June 23 2026 in Italy. The re-appointment is a renewed expression of confidence by the regional deposit insurance community in Dr. Julia’s leadership and in Uganda’s growing role in shaping financial stability across the African continent.
Dr. Julia first assumed the Chairpersonship of the ARC following her unanimous approval by the IADI Executive Committee in June 2023. Her re-appointment, for a further three-year term ensures continuity of the strategic momentum she has built within the Committee and reaffirms DPF’s position as a leading voice in deposit insurance discourse across Africa and globally.
The ARC was established under the auspices of IADI in 2002 and currently comprises 16 Member jurisdictions and 8 Associate members across West, East and Southern Africa. As Chairperson, she leads this body in advancing sound deposit insurance practices, strengthening financial safety nets, and supporting the expansion of deposit protection systems across the continent.
Dr. Julia is the first female and first Ugandan to serve as Chairperson of the IADI Africa Regional Committee, and the first African to Chair an IADI Internal Control Council Committee – distinctions that underscore the trailblazing nature of her leadership.
Dr. Julia expressed gratitude to IADI particularly the ARC for their continued trust and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the ARC’s agenda. She noted that “This re-appointment is a collective honour for Uganda and for the Fund. We remain steadfast in our dedication to fostering confidence in the banking sector, promoting financial stability, and ensuring that deposit insurance systems across Africa are robust, inclusive, and fit for the challenges of a dynamic financial landscape”.
