Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda Donates UGX 5 million each, to Sanyu Babies Home and Uganda Muslim Supreme Council – June 27, 2025

In a heartfelt gesture of corporate social responsibility, the Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda (DPF) on June 27, 2025, made a donation worth UGX 10 million to two key institutions that support vulnerable communities in Uganda.

Representing the Chief Executive Officer, DPF’s Director of Communications, Mr. Patrick Ezaga, officially handed over UGX 5 million to Sanyu Babies Home—a renowned childcare institution that provides shelter and care for abandoned and orphaned infants. The donation is intended to support the Home’s ongoing efforts to improve the well-being of these children.

Receiving the donation on behalf of Sanyu Babies Home, Mrs. Barbara Nankya Mutagubya, the Director, expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting: “This timely gift will go a long way in enhancing the care we provide to the babies and infants under our care. The funds will boost our daily operations, contributing to their nutritional and healthcare needs.”

In a separate event, UGX 5 million was donated to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) to support its community outreach and welfare programs, particularly during the post-Eid period, when many families continue to face economic hardship.

Receiving the donation on behalf of UMSC, Hajj Abbas Ssekyanzi Muluubya, the Secretary General, expressed appreciation to DPF for the gesture. He commended the Fund for its important role in building confidence in Uganda’s financial sector, noting that the Fund serves as a “shock absorber.” He also pledged the Council’s support, through its established structures, to help promote the Fund’s public awareness initiatives.

Speaking at the handover ceremonies, Mr. Ezaga emphasized DPF’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting institutions that play a critical role in uplifting the most vulnerable. “As an institution entrusted with safeguarding depositors’ funds, we also recognize our responsibility to contribute to the well-being of society and to create awareness about the existence and benefits of deposit insurance, which is primarily designed to protect those at the bottom of the financial pyramid,” he said.

He also took the opportunity to educate attendees about the Fund’s mandate and operations. Mr. Ezaga explained that DPF provides deposit insurance to depositors in financial institutions licensed and regulated by the Bank of Uganda. He further noted that the current deposit protection limit stands at UGX 10 million, with any amounts above this limit addressed through the liquidation process.

This initiative adds to the Fund’s track record of impactful community support, including previous donations of medical equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic, provision of clean water, and support for education and skills development for disadvantaged children—demonstrating DPF’s enduring commitment to social responsibility.
