DPF Chief Executive Officer participates in the 2023 International Association of Deposit Insurers Annual General Meeting and Conference – September 25 – 29, 2023
The Chief Executive Officer of the Deposit Protection Fund, Dr. Julia Clare Olima Oyet, participated in the 2023 International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) Annual General Meeting and Conference organised by the the Massachusetts Credit Union Share Insurance Corporation (MSIC) of United States of America. The Conference, held under the theme “Successfully Managing Systemic Risk: Deposit Insurance in a Turbulent World”, took place in Boston – Massachusetts between September 25- 29th, 2023.
The weeklong conference included meetings of the IADI Technical Committees, Council Committees, Regional Committees, and the 77th Executive Council Meeting. The conference brought together top executives, policymakers, and experts in deposit insurance across the globe. Dr. Julia Oyet, also the Chairperson of the Africa Regional Committee of IADI, with her extensive experience in the deposit insurance field, actively participated in discussions on the evolving landscape of deposit insurance in the face of contemporary financial challenges in the world.
As part of a panel discussion, Dr. Julia Oyet shared insights on expansion of deposit protection schemes and strategies to safeguard financial institutions. She also took the opportunity to discuss innovative approaches and collaborative measures for enhancing the resilience of deposit insurance systems worldwide.
In her submission, Dr. Julia Oyet emphasized the importance of international cooperation and information exchange in the context of deposit insurance as well as the need for harmonized policies and effective cross-border collaboration to address emerging risks.

The Deposit Protection Fund’s prominent role at the IADI Conference not only underscored its significance on the international stage but also reinforced its commitment to contributing to the deposit insurance discussions both at regional and at the global level. The Fund remains dedicated to contributing to financial sector stability not only domestically, but also internationally, recognizing that Uganda’s financial sector can be affected by the events in the region and globally.
