DPF Holds Inaugural Higher Institutions Quiz in Eastern Uganda – June 12, 2026

Excitement, competition, and financial knowledge took centre stage in Mbale City on Friday, June 12, 2026, as the Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda (DPF) successfully hosted the inaugural Higher Institutions Quiz. The groundbreaking competition brought together university students from across Eastern Uganda in a unique contest designed to deepen understanding of deposit insurance, banking, personal finance, and Uganda’s financial sector.

Held at Wash and Wills Hotel, the quiz attracted teams from Busitema University, the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) – Mbale Campus, Kumi University, and Soroti University. The event marked a significant milestone in DPF’s efforts to promote financial literacy among young people and inspire greater awareness of the role deposit protection plays in safeguarding public confidence in the banking system.

Speaking at the event, DPF Chief Executive Officer and Chief Guest – Dr. Julia Clare Olima Oyet (Mrs.) noted, “…today’s quiz marks a major step in our efforts to promote financial literacy and awareness about the concept of deposit insurance among young people. We are engaging institutions of higher learning because today’s students are both current and tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, bankers, regulators, policymakers, and depositors. By reaching them early, we are investing in a financially informed generation.”

She further highlighted that the Higher Institutions’ Quiz was one of the channels of strategic engagement with post-secondary institutions. She added, “in the medium to long term, we envisage that the concept of deposit protection will be mainstreamed into the program structure of the different courses in the institutions. The module will equip students with knowledge on deposit protection, financial stability, consumer protection, and the role of deposit insurance in safeguarding confidence in the financial system.”

The DPF Higher Institutions Quiz is a new initiative by the Fund, conceived as part of the institution’s outreach strategy to embed financial literacy in Uganda’s higher education institutions. The inaugural edition focused on Eastern Uganda, with the competition testing participants across five thematic categories: deposit insurance concepts, DPF’s mandate and operations, Uganda’s financial sector, financial literacy, and general knowledge about Uganda. With Season One now concluded, the Fund is laying strategies for future editions of the quiz, with plans to expand the competition to other regions of Uganda as part of its ongoing nationwide financial literacy campaign.
