DPF holds regional media engagement in North-Eastern Uganda – September 12, 2025
The Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda (DPF) hosted a media engagement in Kumi district targeting Teso and Karamoja sub-regions in the North-Eastern part of the country. The engagement, held on September 11, 2025, brought together members of the media fraternity from Soroti City, Bukedea, Serere, Kaberamaido, Ngora, Pallisa, Moroto, Kotido and the host district.
The objective of the engagement, held bi-annually, is not only to create and enhance public awareness about the Fund’s mandate and its operations, but also to create a platform for partnership with the media, since they are a primary vehicle for information dissemination and need to do so accurately, especially in the banking sector given the sensitivity of information.

The Director Communications Mr. Patrick Ezaga, briefed participants about the genesis of the concept of deposit insurance from the global perspective, having taken root in the USA in the 1930’s, up to the establishment of DPF in Uganda. He delved into the deposit insurance scope and the coverage limit of up to UGX 10million in the case of Uganda. He also underscored the critical role of the media, emphasizing that the practitioners ought to be well informed about deposit insurance. Mr. Ezaga emphasized the importance for the media taking keen interest in being up to date with the developments in the financial sector in the country as a whole, as opposed to focusing on their region only. He appealed to the media to always ensure that they report factually, as any misinformation can have far reaching ramifications on the financial sector.
Mr. Ezaga concluded by reiterating that the Fund was actively building and growing its relationship with the media given the vital role they play in dissemination of information to the public. He thanked the participants for sparing time to attend the engagement.
