DR. MICHAEL MAYANJA LUGEMWA

Dr. Lugemwa oversees the Finance and Operations Department of the Deposit Protection Fund. He is responsible for providing strategic direction in financial reporting, financial management and deposit insurance, among others. Dr. Lugemwa joined the Fund in May 2021 as Director Finance and Operations. In June 2022, he was appointed Director Internal Audit and re-appointed Director Finance and Operations in April 2024.

Before joining the Fund, Dr. Lugemwa served as Manager Accounts for five years at Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA). Between August 2011 and July 2016, he was an Auditor in the Office of the Auditor General.

Dr. Lugemwa has 15 years of experience in finance, accounting, and auditing in both the private and public sectors. He holds a PhD in Accountancy from North-West University (South Africa), a Master of Science Degree in Oil and Gas Accounting with distinction from Robert Gordon University (United Kingdom) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree with a first-class from Makerere University Kampala (Uganda).

He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) of Uganda, a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (USA), a PECB Certified ISO 31000 Lead Risk Manager and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (USA).
